It is the time for families to get together to renew their kinship and support for one another. For the adopted and fostered children of the world it can either be a time of reassurance and acceptance into a family- or it can be a stark reminder that they do not really belong. It can be either Heaven or Hell!
I now have my own family, but I still remember past Christmases when I was full of self doubt and mistrusted those who said they cared. In time I learned to be accepting of others' limitations in understanding how worthlessness really felt. Gradually I learned to take on the mantle of responsibility for my own happiness and sense of worth-instead of relying on others to understand how I felt. The healing began at Chrismas Time.
