My novel House of Butterflies is a story about the struggle of young women from India?s small towns, who reach the Indian capital Delhi, in pursuit of their dreams.

Getting a room in a hostel is a cumbersome process in the metropolis. The story exposes the regional and religious complexities of these women, once together in the hostel.

Their professional path without any societal support is not easy.

The journey towards self-liberation goes through strict hostel rules, exploitation at work place and pressure from their families.

Women find themselves at the threshold of modernity, with the chains of traditions difficult to break.

The novel weaves around the compromises and the difficult choices that the females make in search of finding their rightful identity and true love.

I began my career, eleven years back as a journalist from Delhi, living for five years in working women?s hostel. I have witnessed the trauma that all the inmates faced.

As a compulsive writer, have been penning down my feelings regularly in prose and poetry.

It was here in the UK after attending writing workshop and joining writers groups that I was inspired to pitch my first novel on this site.

I am simultaneously working on another novel based on the experience in Germany, where I lived working as an editor with Deutsche Welle.

Currently, I work as the UK correspondent for the oldest English daily from India -The Pioneer.

Nandini is tackling a very interesting theme in this novel. As an Indian female living in the UK and from my regular visits to India I can well imagine the social problems that young educated women from small towns must be facing trying to make an economic breakthorugh in huge cities like Delhi without any social support. India is changing fast and as a result new opportunities are emerging, buut this must also be creating huge soical problems as people are being forced to adapt to modern ways of working and living but without any form of social support. Congratulations to Nandini for bringing to attention such an important and relevant issue. Good luck.

I congratulate Nundini for her first novel and since I know her from Germany I estimate her elegant style in writing. And the novel's subject and plot rise my expectation of reading the total novel one day.

It sounds like you know what you are talking about, and having the word butterflies in the title makes me expect a very beautiful book. I saw that you work as a journalist now, is there anywhere on the web we could see a sample of your writing?

Very interesting plot! Hope the book will impress the readers. Looks like a commentary on the changing societal patterns in India.
